‘YOU’ Can Flip Your Story
Hima Das
Born to rice farmers in a small village in the easternmost terrains of India, Hima became the first Indian woman, rather the first Indian athlete, to win a gold medal at a global track event.
Youngest of 5 siblings, Hima wanted to be a professional athlete. But living in a far-flung village, she neither had the facilities nor the resources. Her family could not even afford to buy her a pair of shoes! So, Hima ran barefoot. Everyday.
When Hima entered her first nationals, her father bought her running shoes. Her first pair ever. They were quite ordinary and Hima wrote ‘Adidas’ on the shoes with her hand. Little did she know that that moment was going to go down as a golden moment in Indian sporting history. After Hima won the world championship in 2018, Adidas began sponsoring her and released a shoe that had ‘Hima Das’ emblazoned on it.
Hima had flipped her own story. She had visualized her dreams and willed success into her life.
“In my first Nationals, my father bought running shoes and I wrote Adidas on them with my hand. Adidas is now making shoes with my name”.
Hima Das
That is the power of visualization. The power to dream big and turn it into reality.
When I was studying to apply to the university of my choice, I was inspired by this quote from Bob Proctor- “Thoughts become things. If you can see it in your minds, you can hold it in your hands”. So, I started visualizing myself as a student there. I used to dream of walking into those hallowed portals, sitting in the classrooms, studying in the iconic library. It motivated me to work hard. And then one day, I got to wear the university logo.
So, visualize your objective. Make it your north star and you will flip your own story. But don’t skimp on the effort. After all, to go to heaven, you have to die first 😊
